Nikita Khrushchev

First Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party (1953–1964) and premier of the USSR (1958–1964), Khrushchev denounced Stalin and began de-Stalinization while retaining one-party rule. His government launched Sputnik and confronted the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
