Belisarius

Byzantium's most successful general under Justinian I, he reconquered Vandal North Africa and Ostrogothic Italy, and crushed the Nika riots (532) with a massacre at the Hippodrome. Loyal to the emperor even under suspicion and humiliation, he ran a rigidly disciplined army.
